Website design

Website design for Northridge businesses

Website design for Northridge businesses, done by the people who have to rank the site afterwards. That one fact changes almost every decision we make.

  • You own it

Most website design is done by people who never have to rank the result

A designer hands over something that looks excellent, invoices, and leaves. Six months later, the owner is wondering why a site that cost real money produces no inquiries. Nothing was done wrong exactly, but the site was never built to be found.

We build sites knowing we are the ones who have to make them rank and convert afterwards. As a result, our website design changes the structure, the page count, how the copy is written, and what gets cut. It is a less glamorous brief, but a considerably more useful one.

  • 3 sec before a phone visitor leaves
  • 1 page per service, never fewer
  • 100% yours — files, domain, hosting

Search demand

Searches Northridge owners make before a website design project

Live suggestion data. The money questions dominate again — and one of them exposes a real blind spot.

Search term Intent Why it matters
how much does a website cost High The question everyone opens with.
how much does a website cost per month High Few people budget for the ongoing part, though.
how much does a website cost per year High The same blind spot, but framed annually.
small business website design cost High Qualified and ready to talk.
website design near me freelance Medium Weighing a freelancer against an agency.
website design near me reviews High Checking that you will still be around next year.
wordpress website design service High Already decided on the platform before calling.
small business website design packages Medium Wants a defined scope, not an open quote.
northridge web design services High Confirmed demand, since it is the one Northridge term that autocompletes. Own this.
web design los angeles High Far bigger and far harder, so it is a medium-term target.

Website design budgets rarely cover the second year

Two of the strongest searches are cost per month and cost per year which tells you most people think a website is a one-off purchase. However, it is not. Hosting, the domain, the SSL certificate, plugin updates and security patching continue forever. Quotes that hide this look cheaper and then surprise people in month thirteen. We itemize it up front, even though the number looks bigger that way.

The honest comparison

Website design by a DIY builder, a freelancer, or us?

People search “website design near me freelance” for a reason. All three options are legitimate — they just suit different situations, and we would rather you picked the right one.

DIY builder or freelancer Built by an SEO team
Up-front cost Lower Higher
Looks good Often, yes Yes
Structured to rank Rarely — usually one services page A page per service and area
Speed Template bloat is common Built lean, measured on real devices
After handover You are on your own The team that built it also ranks it
Right for you if Budget is tight, or you mainly need a brochure The site has to actually produce inquiries

Where the leads leak out

Five website design faults that bring traffic but no inquiries

Traffic is the easy half. These are the faults we find again and again when a Northridge owner says the website “does not work”. All of them are fixable, and none of them is about how it looks.

  1. 01

The phone number is not tappable

On a phone, a number typed as plain text is a dead end. Instead, it needs to be a tap-to-call link, visible without scrolling, on every single page. This one change regularly moves call volume more than anything else on the site.

  2. 02

    The form asks too much

Every extra field costs you submissions, because name, contact and one open question are usually enough to start a conversation. Address, budget dropdowns and “how did you hear about us” can wait until they are already talking to you.

  3. 03

Nothing answers “will you come to me?”

A visitor in Chatsworth or Porter Ranch needs to see their own area named before they will call. So service areas listed in plain text, on the page, resolve the single most common silent objection in local business.

  4. 04

There is no price signal at all

When people cannot find any indication of cost, they assume the worst and leave. A starting range or a call-out fee filters out the bargain hunters, and it also reassures everyone else that you are not going to be a shock.

  5. 05

No reason to trust you yet

Reviews pulled onto the page, a license number and real photos of real people all build trust. After all, a stranger is deciding whether to let you into their home, so stock imagery and vague claims actively work against you.

What it really costs

Three website design costs, and only one of them is one-off

The build is quoted per project, because a five-page site and a forty-page site are not the same job. The other two costs are predictable, so they are worth knowing before you commit.

01

The build

One-off

Quoted per project. What moves it: how many service and location pages you need, whether copy and photography exist already, and any booking or payment integration. We scope it properly rather than quoting a round number over the phone.

02

Running it

Every month

Hosting typically runs $10–$30 a month for a local business site, and the domain around $15 a year. That is it for the essentials, so anyone charging substantially more for hosting alone is marking it up.

03

Keeping it safe

Ongoing, optional

WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, backups and security patching. You can do this yourself — genuinely — or take our maintenance plan. What you cannot do is ignore it, because that is how sites get defaced or quietly break.

The work

How our website design process works

01

Structure before visuals

We map the pages first — one per service, one per community you serve — because that structure is what you will rank with. Deciding colors before deciding architecture is how sites end up needing a rebuild to do SEO.

02

Mobile-first, genuinely

Most local searches happen on a phone, often over cellular data. So we design the phone layout first and let the desktop version follow, rather than shrinking a desktop design and hoping.

03

Written to convert, not to fill space

Clear offer, obvious next step, phone number reachable in one tap from anywhere on the page. Yet most small business sites bury the only thing the visitor came for.

04

Fast because of how it is built

Compressed images, minimal scripts and no page-builder bloat mean the speed is achieved in the build, rather than patched later with a caching plugin that hides the problem.

05

Accessible and properly marked up

Real heading structure, keyboard navigation, sufficient contrast and schema markup, checked against the WCAG accessibility guidelines. That is better for users with disabilities, and it is also the work search engines reward.

06

Handed over, not held hostage

Your domain, your hosting account, your WordPress admin and your files stay yours. We also train whoever maintains it, and if you leave, nothing of yours leaves with us.

Done carefully

What we will tell you about website design that others might not

Every business and every platform comes with rules about what may be said and promised. These are the lines we work inside, by default, without being asked.

Said to clients regularly
If your current site is structurally sound, say so and save the money. A redesign that changes nothing but the colors is the most expensive way to feel busy.

Not every business needs a new website. Sometimes the existing one needs three extra pages and a speed pass, and we will quote that instead, because it is a smaller invoice and a better outcome. We would rather do the right job than the bigger one.

Questions

Website design questions we get asked

How much does a website cost?

The build is quoted per project, since page count, existing copy and photos, and any booking or payment integration all change it. The ongoing side is simpler: hosting around $10 to $30 a month and a domain around $15 a year. We then confirm the build price in writing after a short scoping call.

How long does it take?

A straightforward local business site is usually three to five weeks. The part that slows projects is almost never the build. Instead, it is waiting on content, photos and approvals, so we tell you exactly what we need from you and when.

Is a full rebuild always necessary?

Often the existing site is fine. If the structure is sound and it is reasonably fast, then adding proper service and location pages plus a speed pass gets you most of the benefit for a fraction of a rebuild. Either way, we look before recommending.

Will a redesign hurt my rankings?

It can, and this is where rebuilds go wrong: URLs change, redirects are missed, and traffic falls off a cliff. That is why we map every old URL to its new one before launch and keep the content that was already earning visits.

Can I edit it myself afterwards?

Yes. It is WordPress, so you edit pages and posts from the normal admin after a short walkthrough. Heavier layout changes can come to us, though you are never obliged.

Why WordPress rather than Wix or Squarespace?

Mostly portability. On WordPress you can export everything and move host whenever you like. The hosted builders suit a simple brochure site, but you are renting, so leaving later means a rebuild.
